Someone once said that falsifiability is proof of authenticity. So, is Christianity falsifiable?

1 Corinthians 15:16–19 says, “For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.”

These verses clearly tell us that if the resurrection didn’t happen, Christianity isn’t true. If someone could produce Jesus’ body, all of Christianity would fold up like a house of cards. If there were no resurrection, then we would all be required to pay the penalty for our own sin. No forgiveness would be available because the life that Jesus lived on earth was not sufficient to appease the wrath of God. Jesus wasn’t who He said He was, and we would die in our sins.

As Josh McDowell said, “The resurrection of Jesus Christ and Christianity stand or fall together.” If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, His claim to be God simply doesn’t hold up.

So yes, Christianity is falsifiable. This tells us that the claims Christianity makes in the Bible are rooted in real places and time. We can study archaeology, prophecy, and outside sources to see if the Bible’s claims are true. We’ll look at these assertions in future blogs.
